Shocking accident at Grand Canyon injures young man lucky to be alive.

The 19 year-old boy was enjoying a trip to the Grand Canyon with his family when things took a turn for the worst. Melanie Carey took her son, Brandon Carey, and her daughter, Jordyn Carey to the Grand Canyon National Park as a getaway for the family. Brandon Carey began climbing a 90 foot pillar at around 2:00pm in hopes of “getting a good shot of the view” on his smart phone. He started the climb with only his sister, Jordyn, present and the his mother, Melanie, was in the restroom. Unfortunately, as he reached the top of the pillar and neared the edge, it could not support his weight and the top of the pillar began to crack, and then crumble. According to his sister, the boy was able to slide along the pillar for a few feet perhaps hoping to grab hold of anything to slow his fall. His sister was then forced to watch helplessly as he fell through the air and landed among the rocks, and continue to slide down a small slope at the ground. Remarkably, either with luck or sheer will to live, he survived the fall. Brandon’s family immediately took him to the nearest emergency room at nearly 2:30pm where he entered surgery and barely escaped with his life. Since the fall he has remained unconscious and is on the long road to recovery. The doctors, with his family, pray that Brandon wakes up soon. According to the boys surgeons, it will be a long time and his body will need to go through physical therapy, but It is likely he will be able to walk among us again.
