YouTube, Inc. recently filed a lawsuit on UMG for abusing the copyright system to its maximum potential. YouTube put out an official statement yesterday regarding the current state of the lawsuit that will be put under trial next week.
YouTube, in the statement, informed users that "They have claimed many user's videos
with no avail or proof. If we are sure you remember, a few months ago,
we added extra security measures to the copyright system like adding
time stamps."
They have also told users that "UMG is very aware what it is doing".
In a week's time, a court battle known as UMG v. YouTube will take place. If YouTube wins the battle, UMG has to pay a $250,000 fine that they must pay in 5 weeks prior to them winning.
If the deadline is surpassed, YouTube will file another lawsuit on UMG with a higher fine price if YouTube wins that battle.
YouTube, Inc. has also let users known that "We will also add extra security features for our copyright claim and takedown systems, and UMG will be legally required to tell us what content is being infringed, or they will face another lawsuit from us."
YouTube's email is an automated message, and all YouTubers, big and small, will be receiving this email. In the meantime, YouTube is currently finding a lawyer to put this court battle into effect. UMG has issued no response on this matter.
